Internet telephony service Skype accounted for an estimated 12 per cent of international calling minutes, making it the largest provider of cross-border communications in the world.
Skype users – who total more than half a billion – clocked up 54 billion minutes of calls, a 50 per cent increase on the previous 12 months.
The company recently reported that the service has seen an all-time record number of users logged on at the same time: 22 million.
