| Fears parents could abuse free laptops |

A UK MP has raised concerns about parents selling the laptops given to their children under the newly implemented Home Access Programme.
The government scheme – rolled out in England last month – gives underprivileged pupils vouchers for laptops. Before students can receive them, parents must sign forms saying the laptops will be used for the correct purpose, however there are no safeguards in place to prevent their misuse or resale.
"There is very little policing of the scheme and there is nothing to stop a minority of recipients from selling their laptops in exchange for cash,” said MP Mark Pritchard, who referenced rumours of parents selling laptops on EBay and to markets and pawnshops.
Pritchard has asked the UK Schools Secretary for increased measures to prevent abuse of the scheme.
