Kidblog (kidblog.org) is a blogging platform designed specifically for kids to use. Its stated aim is to be a simple, safe and secure blogging option. Kidblog doesn’t have advertising, doesn’t require kids’ email addresses, and gives the teacher full moderation power. It has easy login and a simple design so uses “spend less time fussing with widgets/options and more time publishing”. Teachers create a class of blogs, and can control how private they want blogs to be, from student-and-teacher only, to allowing parents to login with a password, to making them open to the public. There’s also a support section to assist your use of the service.

RealtimeBoard (realtimeboard.com) is an online whiteboard. Simply create your page and start using it. You can add images to the File Tab from your computer or the web, then drag and drop to the page as required. There’s a selection of mark-up tools to draw, change colours, and add text and make sticky notes. Choose the public setting if you want everyone to view your board; or private if you want to work alone or collaborate with selected people – who can be allowed to edit and leave comments, or just view. It’s also possible to create the information on the page into a presentation.

Educreations (educreations.com) is a recordable interactive whiteboard that captures your voice and handwriting to produce a video that you can share online. You can create the video through your browser or by using the tool’s iPad app (unfortunately there’s no Android or Windows versions yet). Easily upload images from your computer and switch between whiteboard screens. Once you’re done, set the necessary public/private level. Each lesson has a unique URL you can share, or click on the ‘Students’ tab to provide a link for your students to be able to find your course. Students and colleagues can replay your lessons online. Alternatively browse some of the lessons that others have created in the site’s public directory.
